You could read it as a stand-alone and miss nothing if you blow off the low-key pass-off to the next book. Clean, no romance at all. A 10-year old thinking with properly used semi-colons in sentences? Suddenly appearing in a 23 year-old body with the full intellect of 10 year-old? Minor plot inconveniences, but you can ignore them and read it as a comic book. Decent editing.
All that being said, I did really enjoy the book so 5-stars.
